Bright Spot: Track Team Performs Incredibly Well!

The Athena/Odyssey Boys Track & Field Team placed 4th of 22 teams in Saturday’s Monroe County League Championship Meet despite once again missing a number of potential key contributors. There were also a number of first and second team All-League performances (Top 4 in all events are “First Team All-League” and 5 thru 8 place finishers are “Second Team All-League”.)
 
  • Junior Brian Smith, 1st place in the 100m, 200m and 400m individual races (3 County Championships and 3 times First Team All-League)
  • Boys 4 x 800m Relay (Juniors Keith Pease and Mike Lauria, seniors MintesinotKassu and Zach Hale) placed second overall; each leg of the relay earning First Team All-League recognition.
  • Junior Keith Pease placed second in the 1600m run; making him a two-time First Team All-League athlete this season.
  • Senior Devin Hoffer placed 6th in the pole vault earning Second Team All-League honors.
  • Junior Tommy Love II earned Second team All-League honors by virtue of a sixth place finish in the 110m Hurdles.
  • Other competitors/contributors included sophomores Julio SantosBasem Ashkar, juniors Ethan Koenig and Hayden Nier, seniors Alex HaagSean Porrata and John Hampton (who just missed out on eighth place in the 100m with a forearm cast on!).
