Using Mind Maps for Writing an Analytical Essay

Carl Stresing has developed a strategic and targeted process for teaching his students how to write effective and analytical essays in his classroom.

Mr. Stresing uses mind maps and graphic organizers to force his students to think analytically, write more thoroughly, express there thoughts more extensively and align there responses to the essay question specifically.

This format aligns well with our new Common Writing Framework (CEDA) and Mr. Stresing reports that his students’ writing is dramatically improving through the use of this strategy.

Here are a few of the graphic organizers students use in Mr. Stresing’s class.  Click on any of them to download a PDF version of the organizer.
