I was not aware that there is a GTA/District understanding that all staff meetings prior to school are to be squished into the first day (Tuesday). I had previously been informed that the building administration was allowed to have 3 hours with the staff prior to school, I did not realize they were all to be used on Tuesday. To be honest, I thought allowing teachers some time in their rooms on Tuesday was a good thing. A few people have raised a concern about this, which I completely understand. With that in mind… the first staff meeting will now take place on Tuesday, not Wednesday. Since 1 hour is allocated to Ignition, the remain two hours will be split before and after Ignition. The schedule will be as follows:
8:00-10:00 – APAC Superintendent Meeting
10:10-10:50 – Staff meeting part 1 -Introduction, Current Reality, Bright Spots
11:00-2:00 – Ignition (all staff has one hour of assignment during this time)
1:40-2:00 – Staff meeting part 2 – Management Issues (9th grade teachers would miss this one, info will be on blog)
2:00-3:00 – Staff meeting part 3 – New State Regulations, Academic Issues
I recognize that this makes for a very crowded day on Tuesday. We have a lot to cover this year, as NYSED has mandated some pretty radical changes to the curriculum and evaluation process for the coming year.
Q&A Session on New State Regulations: In order to ensure that everyone has ample time to understand the new regulations I will be holding a voluntary Q&A session on Wednesday from 8-9 in the Forum. If anyone has questions about either the new Common Core Standards or the New Teacher/Principal Evaluation regulations further dialogue will be had at that time.
Management Issues Discussion: Finally, since many of you have expressed concerns through the focus groups held this summer about various management issues, I will be holding a voluntary discussion pertaining to management issues on Wednesday from 11-12 in the Forum. If anyone has questions or concerns regarding what was presented on Tuesday during the staff meeting (or missed it do to 8th grade ignition obligations) this time will be dedicated to those issues.
Hopefully this will meet everyones need, allowing us to get off to a great start to this school year. My door is always open. Stop by anytime, if you have questions or concerns.
