Common Core Standards: New Instructional Shifts

We have all heard about the sweeping reform changes that NYSED is introducing this year through the Common Core Standards. This is not going to be optional, and will completely transform our pedagogy and how our students will be assessed. This document will serve as a “Cliff Notes” reference for us throughout this journey. Stay tuned to this blog for much more detailed information in the coming days and weeks.

It is essential to understand that although this summary references Math and ELA, these standards (particularly the ELA ones) will form the basis for the future development of curriculum and assessment in other content areas. So, don’t tune this out. We will all be impacted by this. The Commissioner of Education for NYSED has said that all State assessments will reflect these instructional shifts.
